Petitcoudiac village was founded in 1698, in the same time as the Acadian village of Chipoudy. In august 1755, English troops were sent to Beaubassin, Peticodiac, Chipoudy et Memramcook in order to capture Acadians.
Ten years later, Belle-Île hosted 78 Acadian families who had been expelled from Québec by the English during the “Grand derangement”. These families have been temporarily settled in this building after landing. Today, a memorial sign recalls their presence on the island, and the apartments have been given names of different Acadian places in their honour, to recall their history and the warm welcome for the Acadians in Belle Ile.
